Yesterday, the CA legislature tabled AB-1400, the Guaranteed Health Care for All Act (CalCare), due to a grossly inadequate understanding of the bill text. Delaying this bill leaves thousands of Californians to struggle with medical debt, bankruptcy, impoverishment, unnecessary suffering, disability, and preventable death. This delay disproportionately impacts disadvantaged under-served communities and the working poor.  AB1400 is a fiscally rational and responsible reform promising significant savings to the state. 

HCA-LA will continue to advocate for the CalCare bill guaranteeing equal access to comprehensive, high-quality health care for all Californians as a human right. This reform is moral, it is sensible, it is necessary, and it is urgent.  We ask every Californian to join us in calling on Governor Newsom to demand that his super-majority Democratic legislature fast track AB1400 to protect families, save countless lives and billions of dollars.  Everyday our state budget falls behind in wasteful spending.
