Inspired by the actors’ real life stories, Crushing Wheelchairs incorporates elements of magical realism, poetry and folklore to examine the causes and harsh realities of houselessness, told directly by the people who struggle against it everyday.
Although HC4US primarily champions single-payer health care financing, we must look at the connections between our broken health care system and societal problems. Ella Izenour of The National Low Income Housing Coalition cites a recent study that reveals “adults who incur medical debt are 5-9% more likely to experience housing instability the following year compared with those without medical debt”.
We fight for single-payer because we want all Californians to have health care, including members of our most vulnerable communities.
